A January Re-Tox

Friday 19th January 2007
6 – 8.30pm
Jerwood Space, London

Please join us for drinks and nibbles and help us to welcome the 2007 companies into The Darkroom. A chance for some of us to catch up and for others to get to know each other and find out a bit about the project. We’d also like to take the opportunity to have a chat about how The Darkroom might develop in the future and to celebrate the official launch of China Plate Limited.

Please RSVP by January 12th to paul@chinaplatetheatre.com and do let us know if there is anyone else that you would like to bring along. There is also some money available to cover travel expenses for those of you not based in London.

We look forward to seeing you there.
Ed and Paul

2007

We are delighted to be able to announce that the theatre companies that will be entering the Darkroom in 2007 are:

Blind Summit, The Other Way Works... and New Theatre Encounters.

Blind Summit
Blind Summit is a cutting edge theatre company formed by puppet designer/ maker Nick Barnes and actor/ director Mark Down to make exciting puppet based theatre for adult audiences. Their own productions include: Tramping the Boards (2001), Mr China’s Son (2002), The Spaceman (2003), Pirate Puppetry (2003), Martin’s Wedding (2004), Low Life (2005). http://www.blindsummit.com

The Other Way Works...
Create remarkable performances, dare their audiences to take part as individuals, play with explosive imagery, sound and ritual, are driven by a need to question and react and search for new ways to explore this place and this time. The Other Way Works were formed and have been based in Birmingham since 2001. They devise new performance experiences that often happen in unusual places such as a two-person dome tent or an empty shop unit in classy shopping centre. http://www.theotherwayworks.co.uk

New Theatre Encounters
We bring artists from European countries with different training and backgrounds to work together and play all shows in the many languages that make up the mother tongues of our collaborators. It is our intention that our work can be understood by anyone regardless of language. An important element in the making of our work is play with language - confusion, misunderstanding and the struggle to be heard. The Company draws on the traditions and training of its members – clown, physical comedy, animation, music, singing and storytelling. http://www.nie.cz
